Galician on the TV
Main Article Content
Abstract
To explore the importance of audiovisual media in promoting minoritised or marginalised languages, this article examines the case of Galician in terms of three interrelated levels. The first level explores the expansion of Galician into new audiovisual contexts and registers. The second examines the relationship between normality of use and verisimilitude of use, bearing in mind the virtual disappearance of Galician from certain contexts and situations. Finally, the study analyses the binary of standardisation and normalisation in relation to audiovisual content, including linguistic standards among workers on Galician public television (TVG) and the quality of language dubbing, which should always aspire to make the characters, their dialogues and the fictional universe around them seem credible.
