Esteban Fernández-Cobián, University of A Coruña (Spain)

Esteban Fernández-Cobián (Vigo, Spain, 1969). Professor at the ETSA of A Coruña, he has taught at various universities in Italy, Chile and Mexico. His doctoral thesis«El espacio sagrado en la arquitectura española contemporánea» (2001), received the Royal Academy of Doctors Award (CSIC) and the University of A Coruña’s Extraordinary Doctoral Award (2003).
He has written numerous academic and popular articles on religious buildings constructed in the last one hundred years, some of which have been collected in two small volumes. His monographs include «A Coruña. Guía de arquitectura» (1998), «Fray Coello de Portugal, dominico y arquitecto» (2001), «El espacio sagrado en la arquitectura española contemporánea» (2005), «Arquitectura religiosa del siglo XXI en España» (2021) and «Arquitectura religiosa contemporánea en Filipinas» (2024). In 2022, he published the first Spanish translation of Rudolf Schwarz’s book «Construir una iglesia (Vom Bau der Kirche)».
He is a member of the jury for the Premio Internazionale di Architettura Sacra, awarded every four years by the Fondazione Frate Sole (Pavia, Italy) to the best-built church in the world. Since 2007, he has organized the International Conferences on Contemporary Religious Architecture (CIARC) and edited the online journal AARC.
