Abstract

The exhibition “Myths, Stories and Science: Disseminating to Demystify” actively cooperated in the dissemination of science in favor of the Environment, promoted scientific communication through expressions, myths and stories that society uses in its daily life by promoting related issues with the Environment in the general public and educational community, in a simple and effective way. During the four months of the exhibition, it had about 595 visitors of all ages. At the end of each guided or individual exhibition visit, participants were invited to respond to a questionnaire about the exhibition. However, for this study we decided that only the visitors with the age 15 and older answered the survey. This project used the statistical program SPSS - Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. We found that 98% of the respondents revealed that using myths and stories to uncover science, whether at the food level, or to reveal some of the characteristics of some animals, made them feel closer and more knowledgeable than they imagined and was a great way to learn science. The exhibition contributed to the increase of the literacy of each individual, had the role of showing that each one has to recognize the impact their own decisions and also of who governs us. Environmental literacy is essential to stimulate this understanding, fostering the importance of each individual’s role in the global community and that actions and decisions taken locally by each of us or by society can have local, regional, or even global impact.
