Estereótipos infantis sobre as pessoas idosas

Este estudo analisa a perceção das crianças sobre a imagem que têm das pessoas idosas. O seu objetivo é identificar o surgimento precoce de estereótipos relacionados com a idade, com vista a contribuir para a conceção de intervenções preventivas no âmbito escolar. Para tal, foi utilizado um desenho misto com uma amostra de 277 participantes com idades compreendidas entre os 4 e os 6 anos (M = 4,87, DP = 0,77), sendo 45,1% meninas. Foi utilizada a versão em espanhol do questionário Young Children’s Views of Older People (YCVOP), complementada com uma pergunta aberta destinada a explorar as associações semânticas ligadas à velhice. Os resultados revelam uma imagem predominantemente positiva dos idosos, associada principalmente à cordialidade e ao vínculo afetivo. No entanto, esta perceção coexiste com estereótipos negativos relacionados com a capacidade física. Conclui-se, assim, que a intervenção educativa precoce é essencial para a prevenção de estereótipos relacionados com a idade, através de estratégias orientadas para promover uma visão do envelhecimento mais inclusiva, equilibrada e realista entre a população infantil.
