Habilidades de visualização mental em estudantes de Arquitetura, Belas Artes e Psicologia

As competências de imaginação mental desempenham um papel fundamental em inúmeros processos de aprendizagem e no desenvolvimento de competências relacionadas com diferentes áreas académicas e profissionais. Este estudo analisou as diferenças em termos de vivacidade da imagem, controlo da imagem, rotação mental e capacidade de imaginação espacial em estudantes universitários/as de Arquitetura, Belas Artes e Psicologia. Participaram 240 estudantes, que realizaram testes padronizados de vivacidade da imagem, controlo da imagem, rotação mental e imagem espacial. À diferença de investigações anteriores, os e as participantes foram classificados/as consoante apresentassem níveis elevados ou baixos em cada habilidade, o que permitiu examinar com maior precisão os perfis de desempenho em cada carreira. Os resultados revelaram que os estudantes de Arquitetura obtiveram vantagens consistentes em várias competências de imagem mental, especialmente nas competências espaciais e de rotação mental. Além disso, entre as pessoas que apresentavam níveis elevados de capacidade imaginativa, os/as estudantes de Arquitetura destacaram-se em vivacidade e controlo da imagem em comparação com os de Belas Artes e Psicologia. Em contrapartida, as diferenças foram menos acentuadas nos grupos com níveis baixos de algumas competências. Estes resultados sugerem que as exigências formativas específicas de determinados cursos podem estar associadas ao desenvolvimento diferenciado de competências de imagem mental e reforçam a importância de ter em conta estas capacidades nos contextos educativos e de orientação académica.
