Estereotipos infantiles sobre las personas mayores

Este estudio analiza la percepción infantil sobre la imagen que tienen de las personas mayores. Su objetivo es identificar la aparición temprana de estereotipos edadistas con el fin de contribuir al diseño de intervenciones preventivas en el ámbito escolar. Para ello, se empleó un diseño mixto con una muestra de 277 participantes de entre 4 y 6 años (M = 4.87, DT = 0.77) siendo el 45.1% niñas. Se utilizó la versión en español del cuestionario Young Children’s Views of Older People (YCVOP), complementada con una pregunta abierta destinada a explorar las asociaciones semánticas vinculadas a la vejez. Los resultados muestran una imagen predominantemente positiva de las personas mayores, asociada principalmente a la calidez y al vínculo afectivo. No obstante, esta percepción coexiste con estereotipos negativos relacionados con la competencia física. Por lo que se concluye que la intervención educativa temprana es esencial para la prevención de estereotipos edadistas a través de estrategias orientadas a promover una visión del envejecimiento más inclusiva, equilibrada y realista entre la población infantil.
