ÓSCAR JUANATEY BOGA

Óscar Juanatey Boga (1976–2023) obtained his degree in Economics and Business Administration and completed his doctoral studies under the guidance of Professor Dr. Valentín Alejandro Martínez Fernández. At a very young age, he joined the Universidade da Coruña, his alma mater, as a faculty member.

Beyond his human qualities, known for being a beloved individual of remarkable kindness, Professor Juanatey had an illustrious professional career. Academically, he conducted significant research in areas related to audiovisual media, tourism, and neuromarketing. He published prominent scientific articles on topics such as the credibility of online news outlets, the future of public broadcasting, innovation in media, and the challenges faced by print journalism in the digital age. He also supervised numerous doctoral theses.

In addition, he participated as a researcher in various national and international projects funded by organizations such as the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, the Xunta de Galicia, the Federation of Regional Radio and Television Entities (FORTA), and the European Regional Development Fund. In the later years of his career, he served as principal investigator, alongside Professors Martínez Fernández and Campos Freire, for the important project “Study of the Current Situation, Trends, and Socioeconomic Impact of the Periodicals Industry in Spain within the European Context,” funded by the National Association of Publications Distributors.

Óscar Juanatey was for many years the co-director and co-editor of Revista Redmarka de Marketing Aplicado and secretary of the Business Department at the Universidade da Coruña.


ÓSCAR JUANATEY AWARD

The purpose of this award is to honor the legacy of Óscar Juanatey Boga, director-editor of Revista Redmarka, for his invaluable contribution to creating a platform for academic reflection by experts in marketing.

Each year, the award will be granted to the most outstanding article published in Revista Redmarka. The selection process follows a hybrid model. First, the editorial team of Redmarka will shortlist the ten articles with the highest visibility and scientific contribution. In the second phase, the award will be decided through deliberation by a panel of marketing experts.

The following criteria will be considered:

  • Originality of the Proposal: The article will be evaluated based on the uniqueness of its topic or methodology. It should present an innovative approach that, at its time of publication, represented a significant contribution or can serve as a model for future studies.
  • Scientific and Methodological Quality: Special attention will be given to the theoretical soundness of the article and the rigor of its methodology.
  • Academic, Professional, or Social Relevance: The article’s practical applications will be analyzed, especially in terms of its potential to guide future research or contribute to professional development.

Award Recipients

  • 2024: I Óscar Juanatey Award granted to José Antonio Martínez García and Silvia Cerdán Molero (Polytechnic University of Cartagena) for the article Nostalgia in the Entertainment Industry: The Case of Pokémon Go and The Little Mermaid.
    This award recognizes the academic excellence of their work as well as the significant visibility it achieved in the journal.
