“Água por um Fio” and “Giving back to garbage”, made in Cape Verde and Maputo, Mozambique, respectively, are two documentaries filmed in 2012 and broadcast on RTP Africa in 2014. 'Água por um Fio' shows, by voice of experts, government officials and farmers, as Cape Verde tries to move towards sustainable water management in the spheres of public consumption, agriculture and industry. The effects of climate change, associated with greater pressure on natural resources due to the increase in tourist demand, compel the country to new solutions in order to guarantee the preservation of this essential resource for future generations. ‘Giving back to waste’ offers the testimony of several stakeholders throughout the waste management cycle in the city of Maputo, Mozambique. The Hulene dump, practically surrounded by the urban network, is the main source of income for hundreds of collectors, who, in an open burning environment, rescue waste with potential for recycling. The solution may be to readjust their position in the cycle, making them intermediaries in the selective collection processes.
