Abstract

The conservation of the habitats and species in the National Park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia, which is the main purpose of its designation, as well as that of other natural areas, must involve the environmental awareness of visitors and inhabitants in the area in order to create social awareness that is conducive to the conservation of and respect for nature.


After presenting the National Maritime-Terrestrial Park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia, as well as the natural values that led to its designation, and after offering a brief explanation of the main conservation and management projects implemented in the park, this article gives the reasons why it is important to consider social and educational issues in the conservation of the spaces and species, using as an example and explaining the various operations carried out on the Atlantic Islands of Galicia in the area of visitor information, environmental diffusion, environmental education and citizen participation in the management and conservation work.
