Abstract

This paper presents the preliminary findings of a study that describes and analyzes how disturbances in the attachment in infancy and adolescence may be related to factors of social exclusion in adulthood, such as severe mental disorder. The sample consisted of a group of 200 patients with severe mental disorder and a control group of 84 university students. The data was gathered through a questionnaire, the "Family Experiences in Childhood and Adolescence Scale”. The results showed a principal effect due to the type of attachment and a significative interaction with the type of sample, noting that the SMD group had higher scores in altered attachment, abuse and role inversion, and the students in secure attachment.
