Resumen

Este estudio comparó los efectos de la ingesta de bebidas energéticas y chocolate antes del entrenamiento sobre la resistencia cardiovascular, la presión arterial, la frecuencia cardíaca y la recuperación en 42 atletas universitarios. Los participantes se dividieron en el grupo de bebidas energéticas (EDG) y el grupo de chocolate (CG) y se sometieron a pruebas de pitido para evaluar la resistencia cardiovascular. Los resultados revelaron respuestas específicas por sexo: las mujeres en el EDG mejoraron significativamente la resistencia cardiovascular, mientras que las mejoras en los hombres en ambos grupos no fueron significativas. El CG demostró mejoras significativas en la resistencia cardiovascular sin los efectos adversos observados en el EDG, como presión arterial y frecuencia cardíaca elevadas. En particular, el EDG mostró una recuperación superior de la frecuencia cardíaca después del ejercicio, un beneficio menos pronunciado en el CG. Estos hallazgos sugieren que, si bien las bebidas energéticas facilitan la recuperación cardíaca inmediata, el chocolate ofrece un impacto más favorable en la resistencia cardiovascular sin afectar negativamente los parámetros cardiovasculares. Los estudios futuros deberían examinar una gama más amplia de bebidas energéticas y bocadillos de chocolate disponibles comercialmente que suelen consumir los estudiantes-atletas. Se recomienda hacer hincapié en las pruebas deportivas específicas para comprender mejor los efectos de estos suplementos sobre el rendimiento deportivo en diversos contextos deportivos.
