Industrial tourism: the German case

Abstract
The industrial revolution of the mid-18th century was a key factor in the development of the German economy. The tourism sector linked to Germany’s industrial relevance began to gain importance in the early 1990s, after the closure of many factories and promoted by the inclusion of the three major examples of its industrial heritage in the UNESCO’s World Heritage List as well as by the creation of tourist routes, which makes Germany a model for other European destinations in terms of how to enhance industrial heritage for tourism and leisure.
