Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the discursive role of lexical choices in the construction of the feminine ethos in parliamentary political speeches during confinement in times of the COVID-19 pandemic. We focused on the analysis of the lexicon, not from a lexicological perspective but from a pragmatic one. Questioning the way in which the lexicon contributes to the construction of the image of women in parliamentary debate, we set as specific research objectives to analyze the lexical choices in the construction of the debate, compare the vocabulary used by men and women, analyze the speech of the Minister of Health at the time, and verify the importance of lexical choices in the construction of the self-image. The results obtained stress the conclusions established in other studies, pointing out that political functions and the political-discursive role assumed in the debate are more decisive than gender in discursive construction.
