Abstract

A comparison between different predictive control strategies applied in simulation to a microgrid consisting of a solar photovoltaic installation with energy storage using hybrid inverters. This type of inverter allows the batteries to be charged not only with the current generated by the photovoltaic modules but also with the alternating current imported from the electricity grid. The study considers two optimisation approaches: minimising the economic cost of the imported energy and minimising the energy imported from the grid. The first uses a variable forecast horizon (due to the time of day when electricity tariffs are published) and the second uses a fixed size horizon of 24 hours. The microgrid model for optimisation developed considers real operational constraints of batteries and inverters. A series of simulations carried out in different scenarios, although limited, allows glimpses of differences that can be decisive in the selection of one of the two control strategies.
