The study of isolated Japanese loanwords (I): botany, economics and medicine

Within the group of Japanese loanwords used in current Spanish, we can set up a miscellaneous group, constituted by three-word subgroups: three words for botany, three for econom- ics and three for medicine. For the first time concerning Spanish, these nine Japanese loanwords are described thoroughly from a formal, semantic and historical perspective in the present article. Further, the degree of adaptation of these loanwords within the Spanish lexical inventory will be indicated.
