Analysis of life plans among early adolescents using IRaMuTeQ software

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the life plans in early adolescence, considering gender and school type (public, private and Industry Social Service schools). The study consisted of an analysis of essays submitted as part of the 2018 “EPTV na Escola” project. The corpus consisted of 60 essays: 20 from each of the three schools, subdivided by gender to give a total of six subgroups of essays. The data were analysed using IRaMuTeQ software. The results show greater concern with their future among female students, and more allusions to material goods and a desire to contribute to their community among male subjects. Students from public schools expressed more doubts about what profession to choose, those from private schools displayed greater concern with financial matters, and those from SESI schools were found to be more decided about their future. The results of this study may contribute to the construction of knowledge about the life plans of adolescents, mainly regarding the phase of early adolescence. This knowledge may help to guide the work of teachers and other professionals in the area of Education involved in the task of transmitting life projects.
