Abstract

This paper traces the career of the Danish architects Jørgen Bo (Copenhagen, 1919-1999) and Vilhelm Wohlert (Copenhagen, 1920-2007) characterised by their faithfulness to the material inheritance of Danish construction culture and analyses the Niels Bohr Pavilion in Tisvilde (1956-1957) and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk (1956-1958). The progressive assimilation and reinterpretation of the Modern Movement in Denmark is crystallised in a modernity that lies in the revindication of cultural roots, where landscape integration and material honesty forge a work that reveals the Danish cultural inheritance. The material tradition of the bygmester school by Jensen Klint guided the rigorous work of Bo and Wohlert. Using the original documents of the architects and the conversations with the Danish master Vilhelm Wohlert, the paper defends the validity of a work where the expressiveness is reduced to a minimum and the constructive refinement to the maximum expression.
